Q Q. What is Daisy-Chain?
A Daisy-Chain is a simple way to operate several serial devices through a single COM port, a single Fiber-Optic channel or a single RF channel, without the need for extra handling software. Multi-Drop is another name for this operation way.
The hardware installation is most simple. The connection of the first device to the PC can be made by either a USB port or an RS-232 port.
The connection between the other chain modules is being done by a standard RS-232 cables of straight "pin-to-pin" method.
The software command string includes an "Address" field, that is unique to each module, and enables the user of selecting between modules.
Same software is being used for operating a single module or a series of modules. Same software is being used for operating an RS-232 module, USB module or Ethernet operated module.
The distance between each two modules may be of up to 15 meters long, while a chain of several modules might be of several hundred meters long.
Special global commands have been added to enable special multi-module system operation as changing hundreds of relays status at the same time.
More detailed information is available in the IA-3000 Series user manuals, and can be provided by our technical support team, in person.
